This picture just breaks my heart, I want to hold him and tell him there is no need to worry anymore!  He might have scars, be scared and shy, but he is safe now and no one will every hurt him again.

FREE PIGGY!!!!

https://www.facebook.com/helpsavepiggy

Piggy was impounded after scaring a jogger where she lives in Riverside, CA. She and family will learn her fate in a few days…

Mission
To Free Piggy and return her to her family! Also to create change regarding family pets that truly should not be impounded due to their breed, not their deed.

Description
Piggy is a lovable, eternal puppy that is loved by all…although currently not loved by Riverside Humane officers, her nieghbors, or the jogger that she scared. Piggy has been impounded for scaring a jogger, she did not maul anyone or anything. Her love of the outside world found her on her second offense for escaping the family yard, which is a 1/2 acre, fenced in, secure doggy playground. So that is what happened…now what can be done. Please share her story. Piggy and family will learn her fate, which yesterday (7/19) it has been determined, it is strongly recommended by the courts and the family neighbor, that she be “destroyed”. This will happen in now 5 days of her 14 day hold.

Piggy is a Pit Bull. What does that statement mean to you? Well to her family, she is a laughable, eternal puppy, loved by all who meet her, two or four legged. She is surrounded by people pets, and children all the time, because if you knew her family, there is always a reason to celebrate at their house. Piggy’s #1 fan, besides her mama, is her 2 year old human niece, Stella. Yesterday, during the hearing, the cries of Stella were heard, while wearing a “Free Piggy” tee-shirt of “PIGGY OUT”, “GrAnnie, PIGGY OUT”!

There are families who are not responsible with their pets…this is not the case. Just recently the world was brought to their knees with the case of Lennox, the N. Irelend Pit Mix that was impounded for 2 yrs for measuring to be of a “Pit Bull” type dog, not for any action of his. After the worlds cries to release him…he was “destroyed”. Yet less then 2 weeks later a very similar story is being played out in the US.

Please help us release Piggy back to her loving family. We truly believe that Piggy can be saved. Share this group, send information, or just PRAY! Share your stories and photos in support of Piggy, the family pet.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Piggy’s loving family and friends

Another dog dies all because of BSL…

About the very special Wicca: When owner Chris fell gravely ill in September 2011 and went into a deep sleep, Wicca got on top of him and kept licking his neck frantically. She insisted so much that it woke Chris up and he realized there was something very wrong with him and got driven to hospital. Long story short……Chris had a throat abscess which had spread to his other organs and he was in very bad shape. He spent a whole month in the hospital. She saved his life! She knew there was a problem like only a dog can.

A moment of silence for Wicca….

I am sorry Wicca, but again the system has failed your kind.

I have been a “Bully Breed” advocate since 2001 when I recieved a 1 week old Pit Bull from my then boyfriend.  But I will say within the last year since I lost my beloved best friend Baby Girl Brooke, I have been more involved with educating people about the “Bully Breed” instead of shoving my views on them.  I mean I do PUSH a little of my views on them, and I do get a little angry when they still don’t get it but I try my hardest to educate.  Do I think there should be laws on dog ownership, yes.  Do I believe you should ban a entire breed, NO!  I think instead of banning this amazing breed we should enforce better pet laws.

For example some parts of the law could include:

1.  If you own the breed then you should have to have a criminal background check

2  All pets MUST be spayed or neutered

3.  NO un-licenced breeding and if caught then sentenced to jail time and huge fines

4.  ALL animals should have to have proper shade, food, water, housing, and vetting and if caught no providing these things could lead to fine and removal and rehoming of the dog as well as never being able to own a animal.

5. If you own a “Bully Breed” you and the dog should have to take behavior classes

6. Leash/ Muzzle laws

7.  Privacy fencing or other measures taken etc.

This list goes on and on.  And some of you are thinking well why don’t other breeds need these laws.  Well, lets see I don’t see thugs and dog fighters fighting and killing the mini poodle next door, Do you?  If you honestly love the breed and want to own this breed then you also understand why these things would be better then having them banned and killed just for being born a “Bully.”  I love my recused bully mix Miss Lady and I would do anything for her.  If I had to muzzle her on walks and attend classes I would.  But I would also like her to be able to romp in the back yard unleashed and un-muzzled because it’s not fair for her to be a dog in her own back yard.  ”Bully’s” are amazing.  They loved to please and protect(no not vicious killer protect)!  They are GREAT with kids!  They are active, but I think my Miss Lady is dysfunctional because she sleeps and lays around all day, had only barked 3 times in the last year that I have had her, and she gets about a 30 min of what I call “crazy time” where she runs around the pool and under the bridge about 15 times and runs straight for you then fakes you out by going right past you.  Then comes to the top of the hill at full speed, STOPS and plops down.  She is not normal but I love her all the same.

Oh my!! Just re-read this and my thoughts just poured out onto the keyboard and everything is all over the place.  Sorry bout that.  I am in no way a good writer like my little sister Miranda or my husband Richie.  Oh well it is nice to be able to talk to my blog and get the thoughts out on paper, er, computer.  I would just like to conclude with saying PLEASE help educate people, spread the word, be an advocate for the breed.  And most of all PUNISH THE DEED, NOT THE BREED!

P.S.  If you hate the breed and have never actually be around one be loved by one then try to give it a chance.  You never know it may just steal your heart and lick your lips off(My mom said Baby Girl used to do this to her)!

Police Officers respond to “Vicious Dog” in Baltimore City…(not the ending you are expecting)

Every day hundreds and thousands of “pit bulls” are put to death all because they were born.  On a daily bases I see dogs that need to be pulled by rescues or they are going to die, or the dog that was beat to death and tortured.  All of these stories break my heart and make me stop and think to myself, “What is the world coming to when we are tourturing, killing, fighting, mutilating, and starving poor animals.”  Well today I was happy to see this story when reading my Facebook page.

This story comes from Modified K9 (link at bottom), and it has a wonderful ending!

Hey,

I’m a Police Officer in Baltimore City. I am originally from Wilkes-Barre, and I am a fan of your organization and Pit Bulls. Today I received a call while on duty about a vicious dog chasing kids. When I came on the scene, I noticed people yelling out their windows at the dog. I followed the dog into an ally to see how it was acting. Going on my own approach, being a dog lover, I got out of my car and called the “vicious dog” over to me. The dog came over with it’s tail between it’s legs and panting. I grabbed my water bottle and the dog sat down next to me and began licking my pants. I started giving the dog water. I brought the dog over and waited for the pound to show up. My partner was not a fan of dogs and was startled by my approach. I suggested to him that this dog cannot be put down, and should be taken to a shelter. We took it upon ourselves to take the dog to the shelter, and transported it in the back seat in the back of our patrol car. Then I decided that I wanted to keep the dog, and spoke to the shelter about the steps to take to adopt it. The dog was originally kept outside and was filthy, and now it just might have a new home. I know you like positive pictures so I have attached a few. Have a great day and keep up the good work!

Officer Dan Waskiewicz
Baltimore City Police

There are not enough “Thank you’s” I could give this police officer, who instead of seeing a vicious child eating pit bull, he saw an alone, scared, nervous dog that just needed a little water and to give a little bit of love.  I think Officer Dan got paid back 10 fold in puppy kisses from “Bo.”

BSL fails us again…When will they get it?

When Breed Specific dog laws were introduced in Australia last September, the Australian Veterinarian’s Association (AVA) was clearly opposed the legislation. Dr. Susan Maastricht of the AVA said. “Not only will it fail to prevent dog bites, innocent dogs can clearly end up being scapegoats because of the way they look.”

Kooda and BearSadly, two dogs did end up being scapecoats this week. After a lengthy legal battle with a local council in Victoria, Nathan Laffan and Samantha Graham lost their fight to save their two dogs. Despite the fact that neither of the dogs had done anything wrong, the two were put down because of the way they looked. The AVA slammed the ruling, stating the laws have led to two innocent dogs being killed.

When they learned about the introduction of the law, Laffan contacted Moira Shire Council to ensure his dogs, Bear and Kooda, would be safe. A council officer who went out to the couple’s home identified the dogs as pit bulls and had them seized and taken to a local pound.

Graham saying goodbye to Bear and KoodaAccording the the new law, councils are allowed to seize and destroy unregistered pit bull terriers and their crosses based on visual identification alone. The legislation provides guidelines for councils on how to identify pit bulls based on key markers including muscular build, head profile and size-to-weight ratio.

However, visual identification of pit bulls is especially subjective, as pit bulls are cross-bred in origin. Pups of one litter of pups can look completely different from one another and DNA tests can be inconclusive. ”To some degree there is the potential for subjectivity,” said Dr. Maastricht.

Graham and Laffan challenged the council, saying their dogs were mistakenly identified as pit bulls. A local breeder stated the dogs came from a bull mastiff cross American bulldog and a staffie cross ridgeback. However, the council was not swayed.

The couple were given an hour’s notice and a just few minutes to say goodbye to Bear and Kooda.

Kooda in happier daysThey argued their dogs “wouldn’t hurt anyone”. “They were just the kindest and best dogs. They were always playful, we loved them so much,” Laffran said. “We would have trusted them around children more than most babysitters.”

Laffan is now calling for behavior tests to be used to assess a dog’s temperament, rather than simply appearance and breed targeting. “The laws are all messed up, they should never have brought them in,” Laffan said. “We were just trying to do the right thing and they [the council] just stabbed us in the back.”

Unfortunately for Laffan, Graham, Bear and Kooda, they became victims of Breed Specific Legislation that was introduced as a solution to reduce dog bites. The strict laws came into effect after the fatal mauling of Melbourne toddler Ayen Chol.

Ten Facts About Pit Bulls Every One Should Know

1. Pit Bulls are commonly used as therapy dogs. Whether they are visiting a senior care facility or helping someone recover from an emotional accident, Pit Bulls are making a mark as outstanding therapy dogs.

2. Pit Bulls are used in Search and Rescue work. One example of well known SAR Pit Bulls is Kris Crawford and her dogs. Kris and her dogs have helped save the lives of many people during their efforts. http://www.ForPitsSake.org

3. Pit Bulls serve as narcotic and bomb sniffing dogs. One Pit Bull, Popsicle (named that because he was found in an old freezer) has the largest recorded single drug find in Texas history. Read more about Popsicle here. Including how he found over 3,000 lbs of cocaine in Hildago, Texas.

4. Pit Bulls are great with kids. They weren’t referred to as the “nanny’s dog” for nothing that’s for sure.

5. Pit Bulls are not human aggressive. The American Pit Bull Terrier as a breed is not human aggressive. In fact, quite the opposite is true of the breed. They are gentle and loving dogs. Like any dog individuals can be unsound and have behavior problems.

6. The Pit Bull was so popular in the early 1900’s they were our mascot not only in World War One, but World War Two as well. They were featured on recruiting and propoganda posters during this time period.

7. Sgt. Stubby. A Pit Bull war hero. Stubby was wounded in action twice, he saved his entire platoon by warning them of a poison gas attack and he single handedly captured a German spy.

8. Pete the Pup on the orginal Little Rascals was a Pit Bull.

9. Pit Bulls score an 83.4% passing rate with the American Temperament Test Society. That’s better than the popular Border Collie (a breed who scores 79.6%). View the ATTS stats here.

10. They are dogs not killing machines.

If you think your dog is safe…think again!

Just because you don’t have a Pit Bull doesn’t mean BSL doesn’t apply to you.  ALL of the below breeds are banned or restricted dogs under BSL laws in different counties and city’s.  Send letters to your mayor, attend meetings, get these laws changed.  Your breed of choice could be next!
